Marty Murphy

Artist & Illustrator

I am a thinker, an idea-maker, a storyteller, and a problem solver. I create art that carries narrative—work that observes, reacts, and occasionally laughs back.

I’ve been an artist most of my life. I love drawing. I love pencils and paper, paint, drafting, design, building, and assemblage. Whatever the method, my intention is the same: to reflect and reveal the environments around me. My work invites the senses into moments of chaos, tension, and upheaval—often filtered through humor. Above all, I love making art that amuses me. If it makes me laugh, it has done its job.

I grew up immersed in visual culture—shaped by Suess and Sesame Street, Crumb, Irons, Moebius, and Corben; by the cartoons and animations of the pre-war and post-war eras. Fleischer Studios, Tex Avery, Merrie Melodies, Looney Tunes, and Hanna-Barbera were constant companions. So were Wacky Packages, Cracked, and MAD magazine. That lineage of absurdity, satire, and visual wit still runs through everything I make.

I believe art and creative expression are foundational to human civilization. They built the societies we inhabit, and we lose something essential when we trade that truth for short-term gains and shallow pursuits. So I make things. I aim for beauty, honesty, and laughter. I try to help people feel a little lighter, a little more awake. And whenever possible, I choose to spread truth, compassion, joy, and love.
